Spruce Up Your Patio

It’s time to extend your living space into the outdoors! And we’re not just talking about outdoor pillows! Here are some key ways to spruce up your patio and make your outdoor space just as comfortable as your indoor living space!

ADD AN OUTDOOR RUG

An area rug is the number one way to make your outdoor space look more like your indoor space! An area rug is the foundation for your seating layout and it helps to create that solid base. It emphasizes the feeling and look of a room, outdoors. Laying down a rug also adds an additional layer of texture and colour to your outdoor space, creating a more interesting and inviting look overall.

ADD OUTDOOR TABLES AND POUFS

Adding side tables, coffee tables and other occasional surfaces will obviously make your outdoor space feel just like your living room indoors. However, you’ll need to keep in mind that all of these extra pieces of furniture need to be stored away safely in the off-season. We love incorporating outdoor furniture inside so that we can use them both inside and out! We love resin tables that look like concrete and plaster. They add so much character to your living spaces (indoors and out). And we love adding ottomans and poufs for additional seating which can also be used indoors. The idea is that all these pieces need to be versatile. You can maximize your furniture and use them all year round.

DECORATE WITH PLANTERS & PLANTS

Planters (with and without plants) are such a big part of making your outdoor space comfortable and inviting. One of the best ways to fill in gaps or corners around your outdoor furniture is to add planters with a variety of sizes and heights. Grouping planters together can make a corner is a great way to soften up that corner. Adding a small planter next to a chair can also soften the entrance into that seating area. And we love block planters to create division of space or even to add charm lining an empty wall. When adding plants to your planters, think about their own heights, their fullness and how they evolved over the summer months.

ADD SOME FIRE

And finally… adding an element of fire is another great way to spruce up your patio. There are so many options from wood burning or charcoal fire pits, bio-ethanol fuel for a clean burning fire, gas or propane and even gel fuels for those lovely small table top accessories. Take some time to consider the various pros and cons to each type of fuel and then look for a fire pit that best suits your outdoor style.

The best part of having outdoor space is to maximize your time outdoors! So get out there and enjoy!
