Happy new Spring season! It’s time to refresh your curb appeal!
With Spring comes a new wave of colour and life and that also applies to the exterior of our homes. But the big focus is our front door and our overall curb appeal. It’s time to liven things up and get a fresh new perspective. Here are some tips to help you get all fresh and new!
Clean Slate
The first step to a refresh is to purge and clean! It’s finally time to remove your holiday wreath and any dry or dead foliage in planters. It’s also a good time to give your front door, any light fixtures and porch furniture or accessories a deep, deep clean. It’s the best way forward as you may find things like chips and cracks that need some attention.
Another key point… outside of a ‘welcome’ mat, you should probably take down any of those farmhouse-y signs with “clever” or kitchsy sayings. You know the ones. It’s time to just get rid of them!
Door Love
Now that you’ve got a clear look of your front door, it’s time to determine what needs to be changed or refreshed. The finish of your door MAY have the biggest impact on your overall curb appeal so consider changing your front door colour to make it even better. And if you are happy with the style and colour of your front door, then perhaps all it needs is a fresh coat of paint to brighten things up.
As part of your door love, consider new door hardware! It could be a new finish or a new style of door handle, additional hardware like a door knocker or a mail slot… all of it can give your door a fresh new look.
Lighten Up
Lighting fixtures not only provide a valuable service of safety to your front door but they are the perfect opportunity to make a statement and inject your own design style to your home.
From traditional to contemporary, you can choose the style of your fixtures to either match your home’s style OR to contrast with your home’s style. It’s your opportunity to make a statement.
Light fixtures can be updated with a new design style, with a different scale of light fixture or even with a new material finish.
Decorate It
And the last step to refresh your front door curb appeal is to dress it up with accessories. This may include new urns or new plantings in your urns or planters.
Consider various heights to add depth and interest not just for your urns but also your plantings. Incorporate baskets and candle holders to add even more interest.
And always consider your colour palette. Take into account the exterior finishes and colours of your home, your door, your architectural details like windows and roof and any hard landscaping. Add foliage and accessories in keeping with this colour palette for a cohesive design approach.
Or use contrast for a bold statement.
Keeping your curb appeal fresh and up-to-date will give your home presence. And don’t we all want to be present?
